Your Life Sucks? Change It.
There’s never been a better time to do it.
Yesterday, a coach asked me what I wanted to do with my life.
I’m 61. Maybe he expected I’d say something about growing strawberries in retirement.
He was probably surprised by my response.
“What do I want? Simple: to live, create, help, and build something meaningful. The opportunity is too good to sit around. Retirement isn’t for me.”
He was speechless.
My response was rooted in three observations:
1️⃣ First, a quote: “We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.” — Confucius. In other words, spending life doing what you don’t love, or worse, living a life that doesn’t suit you, isn’t living.
2️⃣ Second, the 9–5 job is on the brink of disappearing, replaced by a gig and solopreneur economy, focused on attention. Translation: job security has never been shakier.
3️⃣ And third, technology enables us to start a business at a low cost and manage it almost on autopilot — unimaginable just two years ago.
These realizations led to my answer.
It’s a conviction: I don’t want to reach the end of my life regretting what I didn’t pursue.
