Reid Hoffman: “Your 9-to-5 job is dying. By 2034, it’ll be extinct.” Really?
LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman has been in the news a lot lately.
By confiding his predictions. Given the ones he made before (the rise of the sharing economy, and the AI revolution), we might as well listen to him.
His latest?
Your 9-to-5 job is dying. By 2034, it’ll be extinct.
Another one?
The Gig Economy revolution is on its way. Chances are you’ll be part of it.
As much as I think the number of freelancers will explode, I don’t believe that the 9–5 will disappear. The 9–5 is useful, and it’s here to stay, but in a different form. Let’s stop bashing it all the time.
What I see, though, is that companies will be reduced in size to the bare minimum. We’ll see more and more small businesses generating billions of dollars in revenue. And more people will have a job on the side if not several.
What does that mean?
That your digital footprint will be your most valuable asset (i.e.: your personal brand).
People are beginning to realize that there’s more to life than the 9–5. And that today, all you need is a laptop and an Internet connection to start a lucrative business.
