The addiction

Alright, let’s set things straight. I’ve got a thing for coffee, but does coffee feel the same about me? The love affair started back in my study days and carried on post-graduation. Seriously, I’d knock back three espressos, plus a double, all funneled into a mug — totaling five hits of caffeine. I’d rather not calculate just how much caffeine that is. Probably well past the 400 mg/day limit suggested by the European Food Safety Authority.

I was like many, believing coffee was my productivity booster. But there’s a catch. The jitters, the restlessness, the sleep deprivation — they all came with the package. And, well, like anyone riding the overconsumption bandwagon, I got hooked. Nervous, sleep-deprived, and completely ignoring what my body was trying to tell me. The more I sipped, the more drained I felt; the less I slept, the more I needed to gulp down. Life got stressful in ways it shouldn’t be.

It’s not just me. There’s a battalion of articles exposing caffeine’s toxicity. Seriously, it’s growing. Almost like an anti-coffee plot weaving its way through social media. And to be frank, they’ve got a point.
