The era of artificial intelligence is upon us, bringing with it a mix of fascination and concern. With its evolving capabilities, AI promises to revolutionize many aspects of our daily and professional lives. But not everyone is excited about this revolution. And with good reason. Many fear the devastating impact AI could have on employment. From traditional jobs to more specialized careers, no sector seems safe from this transformation. But is it really that simple? Can’t AI also be seen as an opportunity, with all the caveats that such a statement implies?

AI, a double-edged sword — opportunities and threats

The threat that AI poses to employment can be felt in different sectors. In manufacturing, for example, automated robots and intelligent systems are gradually replacing workers in tasks such as assembly and quality inspection. In the service sector, technologies such as chatbots and virtual assistants are threatening jobs in call centers and customer support. Some voice bots (like air.ai) are even hard to distinguish from real human support. That’s saying something.
